Youth Essay Writing Competition on Transgender Rights

Pakistan is the first country in Asia and one of the few in the world to legally recognize self-perceived gender identity when in May 2018, the National Assembly of Pakistan passed the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act. The Act aims to ensure the rights of transgender persons by prohibiting discrimination and harassment while also enabling transgender persons to change their gender in national records.

However, provincial assemblies have not taken the necessary steps to legislate their own laws, as given them authority after 18th constitutional amendment. The GTO intending to know the perception of youth about Trans-gender issues and their recommendations for the solution. So, after analyzing the situation, the organization could initiate a comprehensive sensitization and advocacy campaign in Punjab.
